Ok, so I’m posting my own work here, and I’m not touting my designs, but I thought some people may be interested. If you live in the Toronto area, you’ll probably know who Igor Kenk is. If you’re one of the unlucky few – me being one of them – who has had their [new!] bike stolen, this post is for you.
Kenk was recently arrested for heading a heavy-duty bike-theft ring in and around the city. After many years of watching this guy go untouched for his dealings, it is with great relish to know that he is facing a nice number of charges, after his hole in the wall, not-so-secret “bike shop” was raided.
Thousands of bikes have been collected from various stashes and put up for viewing by Toronto Police. Being the extremely hopeful person I am, I headed over to 35 Strachan with dire optimism that I would find the bike that was stolen from me [and my young son who had his ride strapped to the back, Rerun style] a couple of years ago. I had heard a promising story that a guy had found his bike that had disappeared 7 years earlier.
I entered a large warehouse with rows upon rows of upside-down bikes, tires and forks in the air like so many broken skeletons. Placed in rows by make, I scoured the D looking for my precious Diamondback. The odds being what they are, I of course left empty handed and heavy hearted, as my son thought he would be back on his beloved mama-powered steed.
Walking past the last ruins, the above thought struck me, followed shortly afterwards by “hey, that would make a good t-shirt”. In sharing this, pals agreed, so here it is. I’ll be silkscreening these up, so if you’re interested, give me a shout.
And I hope you have many shitty sleeps in the Don, Kenk.

You can rest assured (pardon the pun) that Igor Kenk is not sleeping well in jail. He is an ex-cop and even though that was years ago in a foreign country, most inmates salivate at the very idea of having a former law enforcement officer thrown into their midst. It is one of the very few things that can possibly brighten their day.
I almost feel sorry for the guy.

I went down to the police warehouse to see if I could find my stolen bike. It wasn’t there. Sad to see all these people looking for their bikes knowing how they all had been negatively affected by the whole thing. I saw a few people holding on to the stripped remains of their bikes. It was kind of spooky.

Let me know where and when to buy a shirt. I’ve had four bikes stolen and I’m sure Kenk is responsible for at least one if not all.

the idea is that if you were to see someone on my bike, you’d know that it wasn’t me riding it.
